Monday 23 aug at 2pm

Liz Anelli illustrator talk

This is a virtual excursion for Stages 2 and 3 students 

 

Award-winning illustrator Liz Anelli has lots of stories to share in this interactive workshop! Liz will share behind-the-scenes photographs and explain the creative process for Dry to Dry, her most recent book with author Pamela Freeman, which has been shortlisted for the CBCA awards. Liz will also take students through a step-by-step drawing activity so make sure you have pencil and paper to draw along with her!

Libby Hathorn and Lisa Hathorn-Jarman author talk

This is a virtual excursion for Stage ES1 and Stage 1 students

 

Join celebrated children’s author Libby Hathorn and her daughter, Lisa Hathorn-Jarman, as they share the hilarious tale of a feisty child and her perplexed parents from their picture book, No Never. Libby and Lisa will discuss the real-life inspiration behind this story and help students to create a sizzling starter for their own stories. This author workshop is full of tips and tricks to improve students’ writing and inspire creativity.

Tuesday 24 Aug at 2pm

Magical story maps

This is a virtual excursion for Stages 2 and 3 students 

​

Put the ‘creative’ back into creative writing — turn a blank piece of paper into a map of your own magical land! In the fantasy novel tradition, students will tell an epic adventure story by creating a hero character to journey across their map, encountering dangerous obstacles and mythical beasts along the way.

Angela May George author talk

This is a virtual excursion for Stages 3 and above

Angela May George’s novels beautifully characterise the experiences of modern multicultural Australia. Angela’s books include How I didn’t straighten my hair, Step up Shine on, and CBCA shortlisted book Out, a heart-warming tale of a young girl seeking asylum with her mother. Angela will teach students how to improve their writing and create characters readers will care about. Students will learn the essentials of creating authentic characters and learn how their characters can develop through a story.

Thursday 26 Aug at 11am

Storytime Online with Victoria Mackinlay

This is a virtual excursion for Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students

​

Join Victoria Mackinlay, winner of the State Library’s Award for Emerging Children’s Authors, for a ROAR-some storytime as she reads her new books, The Lion Who Came To Stay and The Bark Book. Watch as Victoria does a live bark-rubbing and play along with our new favourite game – Guess the bark?

Friday 27 Aug at 10am

Christopher Cheng author talk

This is a virtual excursion for Stage 3 students

Christopher Cheng is the award-winning author of more than 40 children’s books. In this special Book Week event, Christopher will read his beautiful new picture book The Imagineer before discussing the inspiration behind this story. He will share his insights into the creative process and draw on the State Library’s weird and wonderful collection to inspire students with their own writing.
